How many pea hills?

homme

Hi folks. I thought I'd like to grow black eyed peas this year and started looking around the web for information on yields so I'd kinda have a grip on what to expect. I read on another website, that

"Plant 30 Southern pea plants for each household member. Succession sow Southern peas every 2 to 4 weeks for a continuous harvest."

Now, I do dearly love me some black eyed peas and figure you can never have too many, but 30x person + successive plantings seems extreme. I had planned on 10 hills or so and figured that would give us a couple of pots per week during peak season and maybe a couple quarts to freeze. Unfortunately, I haven't the foggiest how many plants to consider for a family of two. So, what do y'all think?

Thanks in advance for the help and if it matters, I already have "Big Boy" peas and am in zone 7a/b in unseasonably warm NW SC. (The latter of which has me chomping at the bit for planting right now)

Thanks again!
