It is difficult to say. For me a 100 feet of row will provide eating peas. For eating and freezing, I usually plant about 3 lbs. Many varieties, including Big Boys, Purple Hulls , some Blackeyes bear 3 or more crops if kept picked before drying on the vine.

Three pounds? I don't know what variety you are but a pound of Super Sugar Snap peas is about 2,000 seeds, at least according to Johnny Seeds.

When you are eating the pods they go further. We are talking about southern peas, but I also plant 2-3 lbs of English peas. Shell out 6 - 8 gallons.

Are there any southern peas that grow on poles? I'm trying to figure out a place for mine.
Or, some that can tolerate some shade. I have a large area that only gets about 4 hours of afternoon sun. We are in the Phoenix area. I'd like to find some sort of legume to put in this area for the summer.

Tracy, I grew Red Ripper last year and they went up a trellis of CRW. Not sure how they would do in Phoenix though.
