Different varieties of Pink Eye Purple Hulls?

I just noticed that the estimated DTM for the PEPH cowpeas I have on order with Vermont Bean Seed is given as 85 days. Could this be an error?

I know those DTM are only estimates, but Victory Seeds gives the DTM as 65 days, and Henry Fields gives it as 64. Henry Fields also adds "BVR" onto the name, though I don't know what that means, but Victory Seeds doesn't.

I don't rely heavily on those DTMs but I do eventually take note of them to be on the lookout for harvest times. Twenty days is an awfully large difference.

Are the varieties different, or did the Vermont Bean people make a mistake? Or the other companies?

That 85 day DTM could be an error. In fact, I would bet on it. IIRC, mine were read in more like 65 days. For shellys, that is. For dry peas it could have been 85 days.

'BVR' is bacteria virus resistant.

There are several varieties of Pinkeye Purple Hulls which vary somewhat in DTM. I would suspect That Jimster made the right inference that Vermont Bean seed gave the ripe definition for dried peas. Folks in the north do not seem to take to green shellies like we do.

Oh, gotcha! That solves the mystery, but it's too bad. They don't know what they're missing! I'm glad it isn't 85 days since I'll harvest them for shellies and that would squeeze the time.
