My pack of Golden Sweet Edible Podded Peas from Seed Savers Exchange indicates it is the only yellow-colored edible podded pea in SSE's collection of over 1000 varieties. I had not realized the yellow colored pods were so unusual.

I'm reading the C. Deppe book right now. Very interesting. Your idea of creating some new yellow podded varieties fits her approach well. Wishing you some good gene mixing if you give it a try.

Grew Golden Sweet this year and was pleasantly surprised. They did far better than the Oregon Giants planted at the same time. You're right tho', they are not very sweet. How big are your pods?

I grew Opal Creek last spring which i think might be the same as Kapuler's Golden Snaps. Similar to Golden Sweet but a snap pea not a snow pea. Adaptive is selling them this year and they are also available through Kapuler's company, Peace Seeds.

Yes, I have the Opal Creek sugar snaps, got them last year from Peace Seeds. But I have heard that Golden Sweet is the same as the India Golden at Kitchen Garden Seeds. The description says they are best eaten small, and I am looking for something that we can let get a little bigger.

I have read blog entries for a gardener in England who has bred a new yellow snow pea, and its sister line, another yellow snap pea, but she doesn't seem to be offering seeds (or if she is, it is to a select few).

So I guess I will plant a few breeding vines at the end of the beans rows, away from the peas (so my children don't eat my breeding efforts!!!) and try crossing a few flowers.

I just planted some Golden India Edible Pea Pods from John Scheeper's Kitchen Garden Seeds. Supposed to look like this

The dry peas are brownish with a mottling of dark specks underneath the seed coat.

I wonder what species this is. Says here that it was found at a market in India.

Could this be a variety different from the usual English or sugar snap pea that might carry a virus, like the tepary bean?

Happy, I grew a few of these last year, not quite as sweet as others I've tasted, bought mine from Heritage Harvest Seed. I don't know their history other than they originally came from India.
