The school lima bean project

I am hoping you all can help me. I am new to any type of gardening, this lone lima bean plant brought home in a dixie cup by my third grade daughter started it all.
From there, we watered this plant and gave it sun on my windowsill, and surprisingly..I diddnt kill it.
So, I thought "WOW! I can go out and plant some vegtables" so I went and planted 2 tomato plants in 5 gallon buckets. We decided to replant the lima bean in the one gallon container that the tomato plant came in. I used a mixture of organic miracle grow and regular potting soil. Is that what I am suppossed to use? We have the plant outside, but will it survive the Arizona heat? And can you plant lima beans in containers?

Given plenty of water there is no reason that the lima shouldn't do well. I live in TX and grow them in our heat....truth is beans are heat loving plants...
