My half runner beans are full of tough hulls or strings through the beans. Is it my soil or the bean seed?

RE: tough hulls

Some of the half runner varieties are quite stringy. Chances are that you are letting them get too mature. Varieties intended for dried bean use will have tough hulls very quickly.
