My wife says that is the speckled butter bean. I grow a reddish/black variety. All taste great even if you don't cook them "southern style" which means with a alot of salt and some pork fat.

Sounds like she cooked fresh (not dried) Henderson type beans. Fordhook are larger but still nice when fresh. Dried limas taste very different from fresh. More earthy tasting.

I love fresh corn and limas during the summer. Some fried chicken and lemon tea and I'm ready to eat and kick back on the hammock under the pecan tree.

First time planting speckled butterbeans. The seed store sold me what was suppose to be a bush bean, but they are putting out long runners. Is this normal for a bush bean?

No. They will put out long flower spikes but not runners.
