Something killing my black eye peas

Hello, Im new to these forums so I hope im posting this in the correct place. Ive planted black eyed peas (cowpeas)in my garden and noticed several are dead. I pulled the dead ones up and noticed a hole in the stem on everyone of them. Ive tried to find what kind of pest could be doing this so I could treat the problem but havent had any luck. Any info would be helpful. Thanks.

Have you check the soil around those plants...was it below the soil line...It's so hard to diagnosis a problem with so little information....

Was it a big bite...little bite? Could you see big teeth marks or were they little teeth marks?

was there any color left in the impression or the bite?

Was it done in the day time or at night?

Was it warm or cold..

I'm just pulling your leg with the silly questions but that's really the point...It could be most anything...

I'd gladly help if I could but I just don't have a clue.
