First time planting peanuts

fraumutti

I live in the middle of Iowa and was surprised to find out that Sand Hill Preservation Center, just a hundred miles east of here, planted, grew and sold black peanuts. Naturally I had to have them. They came with 1-4 nuts/pod, generally 3, if that helps with any kind of information you might have.

Unfortunately, all my scouring of the web doesn't let me know what to expect. How far apart should I plant them? Do they need support? What do they look like so I don't mistake them for weeds? If I fall flat on my face this year, what do I need to do next year so I can grow them better? What are the signs to let me know they are ready to dig? And, most important, what do I do with them after I dig them up? Any tips or suggestions on roasting and the like?

Thanks for the help!!
