what happened to my bean seeds?

I planted about 50 bush bean seeds and approximately 120 pole bean seeds, and about 100 Asian long bean seeds. Of all those seeds, only about 3 to 4 bean plants have emerged. I planted the pole beans in the same hole as my corn seeds - corn has come up - beans haven't. The bean plants that have come up (1 bush, 3 pole, no Asian), the leaves look like they're being eaten on by something. there's lots of little holes in the leaves. I planted the seeds around the first week of May. Weather was warm and then cooled off with lots of rain, and that's when the corn sprouted. All bean seeds were bought this spring or late last fall. All from different vendors.

Any thoughts on why my bean seeds didn't come up? I do have a crawdad that made a whole in the garden and seems to be the culprit for eating one of my pea seedlings (which is right at the entrance to the hole), but I don't think he's done any other damage.
