something eating my beans

I live in Northern ILlinois, zone 5. I am on a farm surrounded by corn fields on 3 sides. I rototilled a 50 by 70 foot section of grass (sod). let it dry and raked it smooth. I did notice many small grubs and some june bugs just under the sod. Now my beans don't even get 3 inches high when they are eaten completely. question 1. are the grubs (small 1 inch long and whitish clear) eating the beans? 2. Do June bugs come from grubs and are they the culprit? Are there other culprits that might be guilty like cut worms? This is new land for me.

I must learn how to clear the dirt of these "gruby" invaders "b'cause" I want my beans. I planted Green beans, wax beans, black beans and red beans and many black-eyed peas. Help!!
