Inoculant for established plants?

Never planted many beans and so never experienced the yellow leaves/nitrogen gap situation. This spring, however, I planted an entire square-foot garden flat in various types of beans and, after a very wet spring, the plants were looking yellow and unhappy. They've begun to turn around now and are looking better, but I just got some inoculant for beans and peas and dug it in around the established plants. Think I did any good or just wasted a couple of bucks? Trying to learn .... :)
