If it is a liquid and is open to oxygen then it will die. If it is sealed or a powdered form you should probably be fine.

The dry ones from INTX have an expiration date of 12/31/13 [one season shelf life]on pack and states that it should be stored in a cool dry place[40-70 degrees] out of direct sunlight

It was sealed in a small envelope. The instructions said it should be refrigerated. The temperature was probably in the upper 70s. It was a black stuff...sort of a moist mush, I think, but it's hard to tell. I got it from Prairie Moon.
