May I please get some very basic help with limas? I searched and am overwhelmed with the search results.
I bought a packet of fordhook lima bean seeds and they are just popping up now (they're germinating outside on the deck in shade), so I will need to transplant them quickly (containers are my only option this year, but I can go large with this). Maybe this is redundant due to the type already stated, but these are not pole beans.
Some basic Qs, as I have never grown them before.
1) How deep do their holes need to be? Do they have deep roots? I am planning to use MG potting mix, can amend with Black Kow (composted cow manure), etc. if recommended. Do they like lime? Plan to use Espoma Garden Tone (organic fertilizer) in the hole.
2) How much space and minimum sun do they require?
3) Pest/disease prevention? What are they prone to, any tips?
4) What happens? Do they flower and then the flowers turn into pods which contain the beans?
5) What's the DTM for fordhooks, i.e., how long til I can be eating beans? ;-)
Feel free to share anything you think I don't know to ask which might be important, and thanks in advance for help!
