My southern peas are not doing much either, but we do have June gloom here (near Los Angeles), not sure about Marin county? My okra is also looking rather indecisive. I jumped the gun on both of them (southern peas and okra) because I try to push my growing boundaries season wise that is. I am not worried about mine, they will grow faster when it heats up around here, maybe in August. The other crops you mention are also growing very well here (tomatoes, melons, squash, cukes, peppers more slowly...) so I think cow peas just need a lot more heat, but I have only grown them once before. Perhaps other more experienced folks will confirm this.

thanks cabrita, i guess it just surprises me that the cow peas need more heat than tomatoes, peppers, and melons...

i also have a mango tree that is going gangbusters so you would think i would not have a problem with the beans.

this week is supposed to be colder but hopefully it heats up soon...my beans look so pathetic.

My yardlongs are just starting to put on some real growth and think about climbing now that its 85+ reliably in the afternoon and the nights aren't dropping below 65.

Well I went out and there was new growth. Almost an inch. I guess I just need to be more patient. Does anyone know how tall they will grow. I want to make a bamboo trellis since we have an abundance of bamboo

Tammy- it's been 15 years since I lived in San Diego and grew yardlong beans, but if I recall correctly, they sat there until cooler weather in fall and then started producing. So if you have the room to let them grow, they may do well for you then.
