Well, I'll know this later on :). Last year I planted pole beans in a half barrel where I have some tulips, this spring I guess the extra nitrogen in the soil fed the tulips, they had that WOW factor. Last fall when I removed the beans I top dressed the soil with compost and planted a few strawberry plants around the edge.
A couple of weeks ago as an experiment I planted a few pole beans in the center of the barrel, all I can say is so far it seems to be working.

I would love to hear your results. my strwberries ar planted on one end of my potager, but they are spreading about a foot under the fence. Since I still wasnt sure about mixing, I tilled about 3 ft more outside this end, and then strung a twine trellis up above that end of the fence. Then planted my pole beans at the edge of the runaway strawberries. I might put some more bush beans at the base. I had planned on putting the pole beans directly in my strawberry bed.
