Peas picked too late, pods turned tan: inedible?

I didn't keep up with the pea-picking and so I have lots of pods on the vines that are turning tan/brown. I opened one and tried a pea and it's harder, not juicy any more. My question: can I pick these and shell them and let them dry, for use as "split peas" in winter, for soup? Or are they simply inedible?

You can let them dry and use them for seed or soup.
