| We are first time gardeners..Planted green beans, but we dont know if we should pole them, string them, or do nothing...any help will be appreciated |

| Since those are bush beans, just let them grow and pick them when the pods are somewhat filled out, but still tender. No trellising of any kind is needed. Watch your beans closely so you catch any beetle infestations and so you don't miss harvestable beans. Green beans tend to hide in the foliage. Sometimes I pick and then go right back over them to pick the ones I missed. Jim |

| Also, bush beans tend to come in more or less all at once, over about a two week period. This is called a flush. After you pick them all, some varieties will produce a second and even a third flush. But any subsequent ones will be smaller than the first one. If you intend saving seed, I would harvest the first flush, then leave any others that appear to dry on the vine for your seed stock. For future planning; if you want to continuosly crop beans, choose pole varieties rather than bush types. |
