Beans, Peas & Legumes

What kind of beans are these?!

A friend gave me beans (brown or brownish-red maybe, can't remember) that were over 1" in size and I planted them in various spots around the perimeter of our community square foot garden. She doesn't have any info on them.

The green pods are flat and maybe 1/4" thick or so and measure 1 3/4" x 12". They grow on hearty vines with lavender blooms. I have searched the web over. Thanks for any help you can give!

Are the flowers fragrant? If you search this forum, there are quite few threads on "sword bean"... it does well in the South, and is probably what you are growing. You can find photos of the pods & beans on this thread.

Thank you so much! Upon further investigation it doesn't look like it is recommended for culinary purposes.
