Unidentifiable disease in my cluster beans - Please help

Posted by rrnsss (My Page) on

Hi,

This is my second season trying my hand at cluster beans. I live in South India which is almost tropical. The leaves of my cluster beans look like they have been charred. The veins that run on the back of the leaves get black and finally the leaf just falls off. I lost all my plants last season. This season, I used carbofuridan and thought that I could get by. But I am getting the disease again.

I would be very grateful for any help in identifying the disease.

I have just sprayed the leaves with copper oxy chloride, hoping that it would help.

Here is a video of the diseased plants.

The video is a great idea. I wish I knew the answer. Hopefully someone with more experience, especially in a similar climate, will comment.

I liked your other video of the other plants you are growing. I wish I could grow bananas and pomegranates. I'd have a couple mangoes, too.

I've never seen a blight that caused black veins, so I googled black vein cluster bean, and found this book, Diseases of Crop Plants in India By G. Rangaswami, A. Mahadevan Can you find this in a library? It's expensive to buy.

Is it possible that your plants were hit by lightening?

I think the disease is called bacterial blight. The copper Oxy chlodire worked. The plants seem to have shook off the disease. I thought I could post it just in case any one else has a similar problem. Thanks to every one for helping me.
