Nematodes on bean roots? Pic

These roots have nodules, which I understand are normal, but they also have little round balls attached. It's kind of hard to see in the pic but you can get the idea.

I grew these beans in the spring and they never grew beyond 2 feet or made flowers, then we got hit with triple digits for almost 3 months so I just let them die. They had several months worth of growing before that, though. I keep reading how too much nitrogen will produce foliage and no flowers, so I thought that may be my problems. However, a friend of mine grew the same beans and hers were about 8 feet long.

If beans can and will grow in any soil and do not require fertilizer, then I am wondering if I have a nematode problem.

Thoughts?

Sir,

I got the same symptom in my cluster beans last season. Root knot disease, The stunted growth etc. They suggested carbofuridan as a preventive measure. I put some in with eac seed. That helped. The natural solution is crop rotation, but that is not viable for me as I have a very small patch of land.
