I've grown a few of the Capucijner-type soup peas, and am maintaining several for preservation purposes. However, I've never had enough seed of any one variety to actually try them. They tend to have a fairly long DTM here, up to 100 days... which puts them well into Summer. The vines are tall (from 3-7 feet, depending upon variety) and very vigorous. I'm still working on plant spacing... some varieties branch so heavily, they may need 6" between plants or more. At the spacings I've used thus far (4-5") the dense foliage has led to problems with PM.

Powdery Mildew can be a problem with them in a damp climate as per zeedman's post above.

They give a decent crop here in NorthWest Alabama. I've grown them for 2 or 3 years. They are good for soup and the flowers are gorgeous. They are not as useful for fresh eating IMO.

I prefer other varieties for general eating. Maestro is an excellent one for this area.
