Watering plants on shelf

Posted by Peaceful_Warrior 7B GA (My Page) on

I have my grow lights about an inch or 2 above the plants & I have a little squirt bottle that is getting to be very inefficient. I have to push the lights out of the way & its pressing against seedlings. Can anyone suggest a way to water that is a little more efficient?

RE: Watering plants on shelf

You could put trays or saucers under the plant containers and water from below. That is to say pour some water into the tray/saucer and wait. If it is all sucked up by the potting medium you can pour in a little more. Always pour off any excess that remains in the trays. Don't let your plants stand in water. This only needs doing every few days when the soil is getting dry deep down. Squirting won't really wet the soil thoroughly anyway so isn't a very effective way of watering. You need to be getting water to the roots, not the foliage, of your plants.
