How far away from seedlings with overdrove lights?

I just overdrove my first light (ok, actually my hubby did it) but it is a bright little sucker compared to the other 10 lights that are not overdriven. So I know that the 'normal' lights need to be very close 1-2 inches from my seedlings, but how close should the overdriven one be--is it the same or should I give more room due to intensity and heat?? Thanks for the help!! Dana

ellieandethansmom,

I let my overdriven fixtures come within an inch or two of my seedlings. They aren't awfully hot, so the seedlings can come close. They may grow a bit faster than you are used to, so there is a bit more danger they will grow into actual contact with the bulb and be scorched a little. You may need to shorten your chains a notch about every day in order to maintain a little clearance.

Thanks MaineMan, that is going to be strange to see them growing so much faster than my other plants. Thanks for the advice!

guess this might be a really dumb question--but what is a "overdriven" light?

Everything you ever wanted to know about overdriven lights but were afraid to ask is in the link provided below. Happy reading ;-)

I have found the BEST cheap flourescent ballast/fixture - cont'd.
