how many foot candles would it take to grow a tomato plant, the very minium, full sun in sumer can go as high as 10,000 we all know they dont need that much, im getting all my plants ready for the greenhouse under about 2,000 fc 14 hours, there doing great nice stocky plants, the tumbler tomato is flowering, I want to give them all the light they need but not much more, that way I can raise the light to cover more area, last year they got 3,000 and I dont see any difference, whats the saying (how low can you go)

RE: how much light

2,000fc should be fine. Anything above 1,000fc is considered high light. Remember that sunlight can exceed 10,000fc but not for 14 hours every day. Try to think about getting as much light to the lower parts of the plant as to the top, don't just hang a light 12" from the top of a 3' plant.
