My lightstand, easy, cheap

I finally bought a digital camera. So , here is a picture of my most recent project. {{gwi:1020038}}

This is a cheap and easy way to build a stand.. Below is the breakdown of material and cost. This system is good for 8 seedling trays.

(6) 2X4X16' Total cost $40

(1) 4X8 MDF Cost $28

(4) cheap shoplight fixtures Total cost $36

(8) Cool white bulbs total cost $18

8' of chain Total cost $4

(4) Eyebolts total cost of $1

(4) S clips total cost of $1

1lb of 10 penny nails cost of $2

(1) Timer Cost $5

(1) Zip strip Cost $5

Total cost = $140 for a good sturdy shelving unit that will start more seedlings than the average gardener could ever use!!

Thanks for the photos. I'm in the process of putting together a similar set-up. Are those 2' shop lights? What strength bulbs did you find for them?

Looks good. I am leaning toward the 6' metal shelf from samsclub mentioned in the other thread. I think less work to assemble with more flexibility. Costs are similar too (~$80 for the shelf). I am partial to those peat-pot trays of yours too.

FYI: I bought a 3', 4-shelf chrome unit from Home Depot today for $47.97. Am still looking for 2' hang-able lights that can fit a 20W tube that puts out 1,400 lumens.
