Hi all,

I made this grow light fixture for under $30 and thought I'd share what I have created. I stuck it up on You Tube.

I built this 3 weeks ago and had some herbs in pots that I brought in from the Illinois snow in December that still looked green by some act of God. I put my poor Spearmint and Sage under this light for the past few weeks and they are REALLY thriving. My Sage is flowering with great purple flowers which it did not do last Summer. I'm currently building 2 more and converting a 2x4 foot section on a shelving unit at my printing company for hydroponics. I'll post more video if there is any interest. I know I love to see what other people have created.

Thanks. Looks very simple, like many things after some one shows you how.
Interesting to me since I just bought a 4 socket vanity light from E-bay and am going to build a reflector around it.
Let us know how the plants do with it.

What I like about the CFL Bulbs is that they are so simple to use and their accessories are so cheap and handy, that everone can actually build their own setups, in various sizes, power, and spread. This is a great example for such a DIY project.

Here's a photo of the sage and how well it did under these lights:

You can sort of see how poor it was 2 weeks before putting it under the lights in my video.
Next is the real test of doing Lettuce and beans from seed to maturity. To the left is a lemon basil I cloned from my Aerogarden into dirt. I'll post any updates I can do.

Just an update to my original video. I grew lettuce in a hydroponic unit under the lights that I made. Here is a link to the You Tube video that shows the results. I documented the whole grow from seed and will post that sometime soon to You Tube.

My DH made a grow light for me with a used reflector hood(shown with cat barrier). It holds eight compact flo bulbs(23w each). Necessity really is the mother of invention!
