Yes, natural light is always beneficial to plants and it's preferable to having them just under the lights. I grow plants year-round under lights and near a sunny window and I think that's why they do so well indoors, despite that many aren't "houseplants."

As far as tomatoes specifically, I haven't tried them under lights yet, but I'm planning to soon since I'm about to replace my light setup with a better one (just have to figure out how to hang it from the ceiling! lol). I would give them as much light as possible. Are you keeping them indoors or planting out later? From what I've read, some varieties do better indoors than others. Perhaps someone in this forum could share their experience growing them under lights since it would probably be helpful to both of us, if anyone would be so kind. :)

I plan to plant the tomato plants outside when the weather warms enough.

I've started tomato plants from seeds under lights before for many years. Extra window light certainly helps. I had some of them that I started too early actually blooming indoors before I got them outside! Have fun with it.
