Anyone who is interested in a source of very versatile ballasts should check out this line of IceCap Ballasts. They can be configured to drive an unusual assortment of fluorescent lamps and are especially designed to easily overdrive lamp combinations and maintain total lamp life. These ballasts are highly regarded by aquarium devotees.

The company site is:

There are very good diagrams of possible lamps combinations for their ballasts at this aquarium shop site:

They are great ballasts BUT
they do not work with all bulbs
they have a high return rate
they give off rf frequency

These are problems inherent to all digi ballasts. Icecap is certainly one of the better brands.

ZINK, I have been interested in an ICECAP 660 to power 4 48" VHO T12 110W bulbs. However those ballast are quite expensive. Any thoughts on a cheaper way. What cheap ballast could we overdrive to power these guys? clarkuskahn@hotmail.com

"Any thoughts on a cheaper way"

Check out the ARO ballasts at www.hellolights.com

Also look for Fulham's Workhorse ballasts. I think the prices on those has gone up over the last couple of years though. However, you can usually find them locally.
