I am really new to hydroponics and i am going to start out simple and do lettuce on a floating raft type of system.

I thought about starting out simple with my lights also. using 4 T-8 Fluorescent Bulbs and/or a few clusters of red LEDs.

I can re-use the T-8 shop lights in my garage so i wont be wasting any money if i upgrade in the future and i already have 4 12" red LED clusters in my possession.

How can i, or should i use the fluorescent and red LEDs together to grow lettuce or other future vegtables?

Is there a fluorescent bulb that will compliment the red LEDs output during the growing season? 6500K?
