 o
400 watt hps, open basement, need vent or fan?

This is my first attempt at using a hps system, I am hanging the light in a open basement, the rear and the sides will have reflective walls but the front and ceiling area will be open. Will I be ok with a small oscillating fan to move the air? or will I need to further vent to control the heat? I'd like to avoid running duct work, just uncertain of the amount of heat im going to generate. I have a plug in thermo stat for the fan but the wattage is low so I could run it off the lights timer for constant air circulation

400 w x 3.4 BTU = 1360 BTUs

No you don't need to do anything.

Thanks, That formula is very handy. I'm still going to run a small fan for circulation but that saves me from having to get fancy.

If you have an electronic ballast, make sure it is well ventilated. Or it can be fried.

None needed, unless in a grow tent. My setup is pretty open and i just have a fan going.
