Converting T8 fixtures to support T5s

I was considering purchasing some T5HO 2 lamp ballasts. I have some 2 lamp T8 fixtures laying around and was wondering if it were possible to convert these fixtures to support the T5s? I assume that I can just remove the T8 ballasts, wires and sockets, buy some T5 sockets and wire it back together?

I just made my own T5 outfit for my aquarium last year. I bought T5 ballast and endcaps and then just mounted them on a plastic board. I found some plastic or compost decking boards at HD which were about 1x4 and just cut it to the right length. If I remember the T5 bulb is shorter that the T8 so check the length closely if you try to make your own. I ordered DIY endcaps and reflectors off the web. I had to make mine because they are mounted in a very tight position over an inwall aquarium.
