Yes you can, provided that the extension cord or power bar is sufficiently rated for the total load and the timer is suitable to drive the lamp. Make sure that all connectors are in good condition and fit snugly. Three-pin connections are much more secure and less likely to give you problems in this sort of setup even when the appliance doesn't actually need the separate earth.
