Too Much Light

I have a light rack with overdriven fixtures.

Lately, some of the tomato seedlings are looking bleached.

I never thought that fluorescents could be too bright !

One other thing... the bleaching seems worst under a purplish 48 inch tube I got long ago. It was from a pet store used for an acquarium.

Could this purple tube be the problem?

I note that the lettuce has no trouble with the bright light.

That tube may be putting out more UV. Also check out watering and nutrient problems. The seedlings under that light may actually be trying to grow fastest and suffering more because of it.
