Growing under Lights

Help for newbie

I have a mini greenhouse that measures about 4 1/2 ft high by 2 1/2 ft wide and about 1 1/2 ft deep. It has 3 shelves about. I would like to start vegetable seedlings in my garage and need to purchase a light. Would a plant and aquarium light be bright or warm enough for seedlings? I think I'd like to try to grow greenhouse bell peppers as well. Any help would be greatly appreciated. By the way my garage is not heated and our nighttime temps are still in the 40s. Thanks

Normally, I would just recommend twin-tube fittings for each shelf with a warm white and a cool white bulb in each. You might try to squeeze in four tubes since the shelves are 18" deep. You would arrange things so that the seedlings are as close to the light as possible.

In your case, I think you will need additional heating. I don't find those little greenhouses are well insulated. Maybe you can keep the temperatures up just by insulating the greenhouse at night.
