About leggy lettuce and veggies in general

in the case of growing with lights, I would like to know other signs of lettuce and other veggies growing leggy in their later stages of growth.

I know that seedlings develop a longer stem before the first leaves when there's not enough light. Is this also true for the leaves?

the leaves will also be not as lush as when they get lots of light. the more light the better, it is hard to get too much (although it is possible :) ) - paul m.
