Using heat for first time

I've always used heat to start seeds, but somehow completely missed the point that keeping them warm AFTER really brings them on! Luckily, mine have always done well, if slowly.

But now I have a very short time frame as we're mid-move. Any tips for a beginner using heat under lights? I just have fluorescents and some grow bulbs. Nothing hot or intense.

I'm filled with fear, of course, because I love my seedlings, butÃ¯Â¿Â½it's exciting too! Can't wait to learn. I read a lot of articles out there on the web, but too many give opposite advice! What to do, what to do... :)

Most seeds are not supposed to germinate under light. You will need to research if your particular seed needs light to germinate. As far as heat, you shouldn't have any trouble getting them to sprout in the 60s, 70s, or 80s.

Once they're germinated they need light right away but can be cool, in the 60s. They'll grow fast and tend to dry out so check them daily and use a 25% weak water soluble fertilizer once they get a pair of real leaves.
