I guess it depends on electricity costs. However, there is more to this then just the cost, which I think is comparable but I don't have data to back it up. The fact you can pick fresh, rather then buy early picked vegetables is a bonus. Also, commercial varieties are usually not as tasty or nutritious as home grown varieties you can grow.

Also, I would not consider organic for growing indoor. You didn't say whether it's containers or hydroponic, but in either case, organic is very problematic. Organic is best done in the ground where there is an actual environmental benefit. You'll also have more pest issues with organic. For indoors, it is too much trouble and doesn't make a difference to taste or nutrition, as a plant doesn't know the difference.

In hydro, organic nutrients cause all kinds of issues from plugged lines to smell to growths in your reservoir. In pots, organic has smell, causes water retention issues, and doesn't break down fast enough.

Personally, I grow indoors and out. I use synthetic ferts for hydroponic and containers, and organic when growing in the ground. Best of all worlds.
