| My daughter has a 40 gallon terrarium that was just a tropical fish tank at one time. She is having a hard time with the correct light and humidity/temperature issues with it. She has a mini orchid that she got from Black Jungle Terrarium Supply that was said to do well in a tank environment. The rest of her plants are all experimental ones that we have taken cuttings of around the house or in my tank. She also had a small pitcher plant that died very quickly. What type of bulb is best to put in a terrarium? |

| sounds like a job for compact fluorescent. you can get some pretty hefty "compact" lamps now, fit them out with reflectors. You do not need a special "grow light" - mostly they are a waste of money and do not work. |

A shoplight would also work (depending on the length of the tank, and where its located). If the tank is 48" long a standard shoplight will fit perfectly length-wise (i've used these in the past for 45/55 gallon tanks with fish/plants for that exact reason and the fact that they're fairly inexpensive) It should look fine in a bedroom or basement...but probably not something you'd want displayed in the familyroom |
