Harvest bush beans under grow lights?

| Anybody out there harvesting bush beans that stay under grow lights? I'm wondering what variety is most disease resistant for indoors. Thinking about planting indoor for the winter and growing bush beans under 2 fluorescent (1 GE Plant and Aquarium and 1 Ott light).
Any suggestions for harvesting/growing bush beans indoors?

| IMO, fluorescent lighting should only be used to start seeds and getting seedlings well rooted before transplanting outside. Mature plants don't fair well under fluorescent lighting, as they need more lumens as plants get older. Your probably better off growing bush beans outside during spring or fall. Alot of times, bush beans will produce enough to eat immediately and enough to "can" for later use. |

| I've tried peas and beans, not under lights but in a window that gets lots and lots of light - more than enough to grow a 4' determinate tomato plant, but the peas and beans got extremely leggy. As skinnyhoops says, they seem to require a lot more lumens. I have about 40 linear feet of beans this year and so far have harvested 15 quarts and still have lots growing. Mike |
