Industrial Flourescents

I have recently acquired some 8 foot long industrial grade flourescent tubes known as "aperture lamps". They look just like any other flourescent with the exception of having a strip of clear glass down the entire length of the lamp. The light that is produced at this aperture appears to be extremely bright, by my limited experience.

Has anyone had experience with lamps like these?

They fit in a typical fixture, and seem to operate well on a typical ballast. I have been hesitant to install them over my plants till I can find out more about them. The manufacturer has been less than helpful, so far, but I am still trying to get the light quality specifications from them. Any information /suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
