Growing under Lights

Growing Ivy and Ferns in a room without sunlight

Hey!

I moved into a room in New York City that has no windows. I want to grow fern and ivy houseplants (I'm thinking the Boston fern and some sort of ivy that spreads a lot --- I want it to grow over my wardrobe. Let me know if you have any suggestions!)

I've been looking online to find out if this is possible, but I can't find much information about growing with no natural light (the advice is usually to grow near a window). What sort of artificial lights would I need to install? Would they need to be on a timer? I'm a bit of a newbie.

I'm sorry to say I can't help you with this, but I too am interested in finding out the same.

My new place also has no natural light and it's just gloomy without wonderful plants.

I hope you're able to find an answer to your question and best of luck whatever light you decide on.
