250 w MH for a few succulents

Lamiaceae

I just ordered a Sunlight Supply Econogro Mini 250 w MH light, mostly for my miniature Aloes. So far I've kept them under a shop light, but I know they won't be satisfied with that for long. The bulbs have to be almost touching the leaves for the plants to get adequate light.

I had the option of getting a 400 w light, but I opted for the smaller. Space was one reason, cooling another, and the cost of electricity.

I only have 11 plants right now, most under 5 inches tall in their pots. The smallest is Aloe descoingsii at 3 inches, and the biggest is A. distans at 12 inches.

Is this enough power for my needs? I think all of these (and maybe a few more in the future) should fit under the reflector. I'm thinking the distans can go in the middle, since it prefers the most intense light, and the rest (light shade lovers) can go around it. What do you think?

Thanks,

James
