Growing under Lights

any opinions on sun system 1 hps lighting

just ordered a cool sun system 1 remote hps ballast, refelector w/glass and timer. it is 1000w. does anyone have an opinion. i researched for days before purchasing. the system was in made in the us and appeared from all information to be one of the best available. thanks for any input.

I have a SSI 400W switchable light - different hood, so I can't comment on yours, but I've been very happy with the ballast, using both MH and HPS lamps. It's been very quiet and doesn't get very hot compared to a couple of no-name ones I've seen.

I run a 400w cmh bulb w/ a 4' vertizontal reflector in a 4x5 space. The reason I went w/ this reflector is because it's a bit larger and I can get the plants pretty close to the light, about 24" w/out burning them. I keep an oscillating fan going on low speed while the lights on. My temps run about 68-72 all the time. I too heard that the ballast can get hot. Mine gets only warm to the touch.
Sounds like a good system. Should be able to grow some nice things w/ it....Nothing like eating tomato's right off the plant, in Feb...
