That's the eternal argument, isn't it?

OK, since I wasn't familiar with this bulb, I did a bit of research. Where are you getting that 80,000 lumens number from? Here are links to data sheets for the variable-orientation bulb and the fixed-orientation bulb, both showing at least 110,000 initial lumens. The lumen maintenance is pretty bad by today's standards, and mean lumens are given as 86,3000-96,000. A fairly old bulb would probably give around 80,000 lumens.

Personally I'd give these bulbs a miss and go for the Hortilux HPS. More lumens, better spectrum (in my opinion), longer life, and better lumen maintenance. No comparison.

Most of the online stores that sell them say they're 80,000 INITIAL lumens.

This site lists the lumens for all bulbs sold-the regular MH's show 110,000 or 115,000 for the 1000 W halide. Then near the bottom under "blue burning" metal halide, it shows the 1000 watt at 80,000.

This one says 80,000 in the header but then 117k "initial lumens" at the bottom in the description:

Could be an error, because all their other bulbs show the same lumens in the header and in the description.

I don't have full specs for the Sunmaster bulbs, but I would guess that they are approx 110,000 initial lumens just like similar lamps. Always check lamp specs. If the manufacturer doesn't offer lamp specs then look elsewhere. I've seen everything from 20,000-120,000 lumens quoted for these bulbs from commercial sources.
