First off, what is a "50 watt grow light"? There's a lot of different lights, and most of them marketed as "grow lights" are either worthless or significantly more powerful than 50w.

Beyond that, I run my lights for between 12 and 18 hours a day depending on a bunch of things (electric bill included). 14-16 hours of light should be a safe medium for most any plant.
