Growing under Lights

Couple questions with my setup.

I have 2 4ft 2 bulbT5HO fixtures for my plants. Basically I am wondering if the coverage of these lights is just directly underneath, or if it extends several inches to the sides? Currently I have the two lights spaced 1 ft from each other over my grow table.

Also once I transplant my herbs/flowers from seed cells into a 4 inch pot how long can I let them grow in there? From the 4 inch pot how big should I go for a permanent container? Plants I'm doing are Borage, chamomile, basil, alpine strawberries, and radishes.

The height your lights are above your plants will determine how far to the sides the light will cover. That being said you want your lights a couple inches off the top of the plants which makes the side coverage nearly non-existent.

The plants you mention I would start in the pots you plan to be their permanent container. That is if your planning to grow them under your lights full time.
