Set up for flowering house plants-HELP!

I just set up a new light stand for my office in the basement of our home. The stand is metal with wire shelves. I installed two two 24 in. florescent 75 watt, 120 volt lights side by side. I am growing flowering house plants; African violets, Streps, mini roses, etc. I have plants on two shelves, the top has plants about eight inches from the lights, the second is about eighteen. They are on a timer with 12 hours of light. The room temperature is 73 and the humidity is about 50%.
Are the plants getting enough light? Is the humidity too low? I appreciate any and all advise.
Thanks!

| 24" 75W fluorescent sounds a little odd. Are these the VHO aquarium tubes? Or some sort of compact fluorescent? Hard to know just what you have so I don't know how much light you're getting. Any reflectors on the lights? How big are the shelves? At the end of the day, if the plants flower and don't get scorched, you're doing OK, but I guess you don't want to wait months to find it its all wrong :) |

| I would say you don't have near enough light for them to thrive. Especially the plants that are 18 inches away. You may have just enough light to keep them miserable. |
