just added lighting -- photo period and position question

I recently posted about a small lime tree drying out on the houseplant forum and along the way adding lighting was suggested.

I am growing two small trees, one lime and one avocado, each about 2.5 years old and so far kept to about 20 inches tall. One 8 inch and one 10 inch pot both terracotta. This year I am limited to a small obstructed western window.

I just added a 24" florescent I had on hand and Gerry-rigged a reflector. The tube is about 3 inches above the nearest foliage. The reflector is common aluminum foil extending the length of the fixture and extending out 9 inches horizontally from the tube with a slight arc to it.

Any suggestions on this cheap setup?

What if any problems may ensue from going from low light to a long photo period?

Might there be a problem with this weak of a light burning the avocado leafs (the lime just did a full drop)?
