Growing under Lights

250 Watt Metal Halide...worth it?

Hey All,

I have everything laying around (used to be into the aquarium hobby) and never got rid of my ballast and fixture. Would it be worth it to set it up for my ficus elasticas over the winter?

All I would need is a bulb, I found some 6700k bulbs relatively cheap. Also the plants would be sitting on or near a SE facing window, that gets direct sunlight from about 9am to 1pm, before the sun hides behind another building.

For one plant, a 250W HPS should be just fine. The main limitation of a 250W is it's limited coverage area. Since you are only growing a single plant, get it as close as you can without burning it, and you'll do fine.

Ahh a MH! Love those but personally I have 2 150W HPS with a ballast running in my indoor garden (it's winter!)
MH only allows such a spectrum but is good enough for the Veg phase of any plant.
