can i grow a coconut tree under a heat or plant growth light to give it a better chance?

Heat lamp? No, all it'd do is cook the plant. Regular incandescent grow light? Not worth it unless it's a very small seedling. HID? Absolutely. How powerful a lamp you'd need depends on how big the plant is and as Andy asked, how high are your ceilings are. Also how much natural light it gets and whether you can move it outside for the Summer.

I would recommend HID lighting.

I had one for a year in my greenhouse. It sat on the ground in there...it died the next summer. I think the ground was still too cool even though I kept the air temp at 60F...

They need high heat and high light energy...not your average plant...
